The Woofter Fabrication Shop – Making Dreams A Reality

woofter construction fabrication shop kansas

“If you dream it up, I can build it.” Jake Blackhart is our Fabrication Shop Foreman and he takes great pride in the work his team produces. The biggest factor of our shop’s success is the incredible relationship and collaboration that happens company-wide. Communication, partnership, and clear processes are so important in achieving the best end result on any given project. From the customer’s initial idea to blueprints, final specs, fabrication, and finishings – the amazing collabs that occur each step of the way is how ideas are brought to life.

Built & Created by Woofter Construction Fabrication

built and created by woofter construction fabricationIf you venture out 100 miles in any direction from the Woofter Fab Shop in Colby, Kansas, you’ll spot something produced by our millwrights. We cut, weld, and build just about anything – with metal, of course. We’re skilled at handling different materials; iron/steel (mild to galvanized in a variety of thicknesses), stainless steel, and aluminum. Our fabrication shop primarily focuses on industrial projects but we do residential projects as well, including on-site repairs and installations with our mobile welding service!

Our Plasma Cutter Really Cuts

Messer CNC plasma table for custom fabrication jobsWe are blessed to have a Messer 170amp CNC plasma table in our fabrication shop. Not only does it cut metal like butter, but it cuts a ton of time and effort – and it’s incredibly exact. The plasma cutter is great for mass production for things like brackets, gussets, transitions, and slide gates. It holds 1/8 to 1.5in thick 8×12’ sheet of metal and the computer helps us nest 30 products into a sheet. Of course, it’s also the perfect tool for creating custom signs with all the font and lettering choices, as well as other decorative metal items. We’ve had the plasma cutter for a few years now and we just love it – it speeds up the entire fabrication process greatly, cuts design and material handling time way down, and we have less material waste overall.

Here are a few examples of the “fab” work we do in various areas…

fabrication for custom irrigation partsCustom Irrigation Fabrication

Irrigation is the lifeblood of our community and we are proud to support our farmers with their irrigation requirements. There is a frequent need for custom parts in irrigation, like when you need to make a turn and the factory parts just won’t fit; we can make that elbow! We work on any pipes needed for custom irrigation installations and repairs. We’ll cut in new pipe, weld on new flanges, repair a damaged section of pipe, or even rebuild all new parts to replace an entire failing system.

Custom Grain Handling Fabrication

custom augers and grain handling fabrication shopGrain is “engrained” in our hearts here on the high plains! We regularly fabricate grain handling equipment from scratch to meet the unique specifications of any farm operation. We make custom pivots, augers, flag gates, aeration tubes and elbows, downspouts, and transitions. We also build the steel structures that hold the weight of the overhead hoppers, the iron dump pit hoppers themselves, the steel grates that the semi-trucks drive on, and, of course, the catwalks. We often reproduce factory items with small improvements for less cost than the OEM parts.

Custom Residential Fabrication

custom stair handrail residential fabrication projectsWe believe every homeowner should get what they want, how they want it. If a homeowner has a concept in mind for a project, we want to make it come to fruition. We fabricate customer handrails and stair rails that are safe, functional, and beautiful. We craft custom shelving or storage for your garage or workshop and metal benches for your yard. Decorative signs with custom lettering are often used in residential applications. And security fencing and exterior gate (both large and small) are just as applicable at home as they are on a ranch. Of course, all of our products are finished in our in-house paint shop – nothing leaves bare metal unless you want it that way!

Fabrication for Construction Projects

onsite fabrication for construction projectsAt Woofter, we live and breathe construction. Our fabrication team is responsible for the concrete cages and rebar bending – from the pillars for light poles to the stem walls around containment areas to the structures for the grain bins.

We are often called upon to help during the erection of metal buildings as well – even though they are pre-fab, sometimes the puzzle pieces don’t fit how they should or modifications to the original plan are desired.

Fabrication Collabs w/Local Businesses

fabrication partnerships with local businessesWe’re happy to help out our fellow businesses with their fabrication needs. We create custom signs directly for farms, ranches, and other businesses, and we partner with a local sign company too. A local HVAC company collaborates with us whenever they need something custom-fit for their jobs. If your business could benefit from outsourcing to us, we’d love to hear from you!
